Patagonia Expedition Race
February 2007

The fourth Patagonia Expedition Race (PER) will take place between the 11th and 22nd of February, 2007. This new, improved, and expanded version of the race will prove the hardest to date, as it will have an approximate length of 1,100 km, ranging from one end to the other of Chile's Southern Patagonian territory. The race will have as a starting point the Torres del Paine National Park while the finish line is set within the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve, which is listed under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Program as being the southernmost World Biosphere Reserve on the planet. More specifically, the finish line will physically be at our Hotel LAKUTAIA, on Navarino Island.

The PER will gather some of the most experienced international adventure-racing teams which, besides crossing Chilean Patagonia, they will run, bike, and paddle through Tierra del Fuego's virgin native Nothofagus forests, fjords, archipelagos, and landmark lakes such as Deseado and Fagnano, Darwin Mountain Range and afterwards crossing Beagle Channel which will bring the racers to just one step away from the myth-veiled Cape Horn.

It will be at this point where our Schooner SV Victory will be emulating Robert FitzRoy and Charles Darwin's journey by repeating the HMS Beagle's route while crossing the channel escorting the racing teams.

LAKUTAIA wishes the best to all competitors as well as to the organization and its staff, on this new and latest version of the Patagonia Expedition Race."
